Waste
water treatment is not a traditional market for Velan valves,
but Steve Babensse of Quarter Turn Controls saw an opportunity
and sold Velan ball valves for waste water service. During
an upgrade program in early 1998, the Greater Vancouver
Regional District Lulu Island Waste Treatment Plant in Richmond
B.C. decided to use ball valves instead of plug valves due
to their higher Cv and lower torque. They purchased eight
10-inch SB-150 and sixteen 6-inch SB-150 to be used for
digester sludge circulation on waste digesters. The memory
seal ball valves were automated with Bettis piston actuators
and Go limit switches. The valves, one of which is shown
here to the left, have been working flawlessly since their
installation.
