Passionate about prototype development and new technologies, within the Innovation, R&D and Technology group, the Designer, IRDT applies a solid knowledge of mechanical engineering principles to develop new solutions and to evaluate the merits and risks of alternatives. Within a multi-disciplinary team he efficiently applies MathCad, FEA and CFD simulation tools such as ANSYS Workbench to predict performance and develop concepts. He/she will work effectively with colleagues to ensure that engineering decisions which span multiple disciplines are balanced and optimized for the overall performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness of the product and technology.More specifically, she/he will be responsible to:
- Review existing solutions and prepare comprehensive summary
- Develop new mechanical design of valves using engineering calculations
- Perform structural, fluid, and thermal analysis using ANSYS Workbench
- Ensure designs meet industry codes, standards, and accepted engineering practices
- Under the supervision of the Product development process Manager:
- Lead projects, including planning, tracking, scope, execution, and reporting
- Ensure project definition including business case and technical specification
- Synchronize activity with other Engineering groups including overseas teams
- Present proposals, project updates, and final results
- Write reports and engineering instructions to document and transmit final results
- Supervise Internship students and/or laboratory technician
- Support the R&D lab with test fixture designs.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ of experience in design, product development and manufacturing
- Fluency using 3D solid modeling CAD systems and drawing preparation
- Knowledge and experience using engineering and design analytical software (ANSYS, CFX, Pro/Mechanica, MathCAD, etc.)
- Knowledge of drafting dimensioning and tolerancing standard (ANSI Y14.5)
- Solid understanding of machining and assembly methods and processes
- Knowledge and experience of valve and pressure vessel design standards and procedures, including ASME B16.34, ASME B16.10, ASME B16.5, ASME BPVC, ASME Y14.5, API 608, an asset
- Fluency in English & French (oral and written)
- Excellent oral and written communication to all levels with experience making presentations
