General Manager, Plant 2

Job Description

The General Manager is accountable for spearheading the mandate to ensure and improve plant performance and reduce operational costs associated with the plant he is responsible for. The role will have oversight of approximately 200 employees, with direct management of five to ten key staff.
 
 
Major responsibilities:
 
  • Provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the plant and effectively communicate company objectives and policies. 
  • Engage the entire employee population to operate and maintain the business in such a way that all employees are focused on safety, continuous improvement, the development of leading practices, and the achievement of the highest quality production, environmental, health and safety standards.
  • Ensure understanding of the impact that plant performance has in the areas of delivery, cost, quality, and service.
  • Develop and lead implementation of new manufacturing excellence initiatives, including lean manufacturing principles, strategic resource allocation, organization structure, production systems and techniques for improved efficiencies.
  • Establish procedures and policies to achieve production schedules, product standards, and operational costs. 
  • Development of manufacturing practices as well as quality and continuous improvement techniques to support safety and cost reductions.
  • Set plant performance goals and objectives and then execute to achieve them, ensuring progress is made and corrective measures are taken as necessary. Lead the organization to operate within budget and on planned schedules.
  • Create a positive employee and labor relations environment that engages employees and delivers business results. Foster a people-oriented corporate culture.
  • Identify, develop and reward the talent and expertise of manufacturing people, by supporting sound processes for people selection and development, pay administration, coaching and mentoring.
  • Build up a high-quality professional team and establish management system to maximize the internal resources utilization.
  • Work closely with sales to ensure customer satisfaction and accurate pricing.
  • Identify and quickly adapt to changing commercial requirements while providing insight and playing a supportive role in the advancement of business development activities.
  • Enable continued and improved business performance by unlocking opportunities in the areas of manufacturing, engineering and HSQE through knowledge transfer, technical expertise, innovation and stakeholder management.
  • Create agendas that align with the overall goals of the company and address related responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to establish procedures and policies to achieve production schedules, product standards, and operational costs.
  • Proven experience analyzing processes and implementing operational changes in order to increase efficiency and enhance profitable operations while maintaining a safe work environment. 
  • Ability to develop new business processes, prioritize and delegate special projects.
  • Ability to manage competing demands in order to meet commitments. 
  • Mechanical aptitude, understanding and implementation of LEAN principles. 
  • Strong ability to plan, organize and execute.
  • Empowerment: ability to create an environment in which people are involved, included and accountable for their action.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational management skills with a sincere appreciation for people and professional values - someone who leads by example.
