Job Description

Mandate

Under the supervision of the Manager, Human Resources, the Senior Specialist, Labor Relations is responsible for the strategic and operational management of labor relations for Velan North America.
 
More specifically, the incumbent acts as the spokesperson for the organization in the establishment and creation of the mandate and the negotiation of collective agreements to ensure the success of the company’s transformational project and the sustainability of its operations.

Key Responsibilities

Transformation and collective agreements
 
  • As a principal negotiator, work with human resources leadership, executive group, operations team and union leadership in the preparation and creation of new collective agreements in line with an evolving manufacturing strategy, based on the model of partnership previously established during the course of an organizational transformation program.
     
  • Develop and draft texts of collective agreements, protocols, agreements or other types of contracts.
Organization and team
 
  • Advise managers on labor relations to maintain a positive work climate and optimize the performance of individuals and groups, notably by quickly finding effective resolution to labor relations related problems.
     
  • Manage all aspects of governance and represent the organization on various committees, working in partnership with union leaders to proactively address issues, concerns and opportunities.
     
  • Participate in organizational development issues and work closely with the human resources management and organizational development team to support related changes.
     
  • Ensure the implementation of working conditions in line with collective agreements and develop related operational processes.
 
  • Contribute to the development of the culture change plan and to the coaching of the operations management team.
Expertise
 
  • Monitor the application of collective agreements and document the interpretations thereof.
     
  • Analyze contentious situations and recommend appropriate interventions (crisis management, disciplinary and administrative investigations, harassment complaints, etc.).
     
  • Analyze grievances, disagreements and other submitted disputes by assessing their merits, formulating appropriate recommendations and advising managers on settlement opportunities.
     
  • Monitor case laws, perform analyses and formulate recommendations in areas of expertise.

Requirements

Scope
 
  • Velan North America

Education
 
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial relations, law or related field.
  • Member of the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés (asset).

Experience
 
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in labor relations in the manufacturing sector in Canada and the United States, specifically in the creation, negotiation and implementation of labor relations strategies at the corporate level

Knowledge
 
  • Fluency in French and English (written and oral).

Working Conditions
 
  • Extra hours on weekdays and weekend in peak periods.
  • Regular travel to various plants across North America.
