Corporate Application Engineer

Job Description

Mandate
 
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Quotations, the incumbent will responsible for managing all the tools that the application engineers and application specialists use to perform their tasks. The incumbent will be the main point of contact to handle incoming technical requests, which may or may not be quote related, from internal and/or external customers, guide application specialists into execution of their tasks, and ensure that the tasks meet the customer deadlines. The incumbent will also play a vital role on strategic quotes where the individual will lead a cross functional team to ensure customer requirements are captured. The Corporate Application Engineer will own the on-boarding and training processes for new hires.
 
Main Responsibilities
 
  • Review current and recommended application engineering systems and develop more dated solutions to improve reliability and efficiency of outdated tools.
 
  • Review technical queries whether internal / external and provide replies to customers through thorough review, evaluation, and clarification processes that allow the identification of technical factors that may affect cost, delivery, and ability to conform.
 
  • Deliver relevant and effective solutions to customers by coordinating with internal and external resources.
 
  • Be the project engineer on strategic quotes by being the quotation lead from the beginning of the quotation life cycle to the end. This also entails leading a cross functional team and outlining all the deliverables to ensure that all the requirements are met and that the quotations deadlines are respected.
 
  • Select, size and price valves and actuators that conform to customers’ requirements.
 
  • Prepare and issue actuator ordering documents at time of order entry.
 
  • Ensure that Ordre des Ingénieurs de Québec (OIQ) laws and regulations are respected.
 
  • Manager the department training schedule and coordinate related activities.
 
  • Plays a key role in the on-boarding process; create training material for the new hires and play a key role in the mentorship of new hires and subsidiary integration/collaboration.

Requirements

Education
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or the equivalent.
  • Member of the OIQ.
 
Experience
 
  • 10 years of experience as an engineer.
  • 5 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Experience in the selection of mechanical equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, pipes, and fittings, etc. is an asset.
  • Experience in inside sales or customer-service in industrial products is an asset.
 
Knowledge and Competencies
 
  • Bilingual (English is a must and French an asset).
  • Well versed in both metric and imperial scientific units.
  • Familiar with ERP system (information in BAAN LN)
  • Well versed in document control process and engineering document revision control.
  • Knowledge of the following is an asset:
    • Autocad;
    • Velan valve products, materials, accessories, and actuators used on the market;
    • Various Velan valve products & description (figure number designations);
    • Valve industry basic standards (ASME B16.34, B16.5, B16.25, B16.10, API and more); and,
    • OIQ laws and regulations.
  • Excellent in organizational skills & scheduling priorities.
  • Strong computer skills (MS office, Excel, Gantt Charts, Teams are required).
  • Ability to respond well to changing priorities and deadlines.
