Working with the Quality team and the welding department, the Welding Inspector is charged with maintaining and verifying the welding programs and associated documentation to ensure the requirements of QAM-08, ASME Section IX, and VEL-QC-900-8 and MIL-STD 278 & 248 are met.- Maintain and verify that Plant 3 welding operations meet all applicable code requirements including ASME Section IX and MIL-STD 278 & 248
- Supervise the welding qualification process including witnessing the welding of the test plate, visual inspection of root pass, and verifying that the welder has sufficient skill to produce satisfactory results
- Maintain and verify that Plant 3 welding operations meet all the requirements of Velan Quality Manuals, subsequent quality documents, as well as all customer requirements.
- Will be called upon to perform visual inspection on weld coupons and production parts
- The review and verification of logbook correctness
- The review and signing of Weld Filler Metal requisitions
- Prepare, witness, and maintain Welder qualification records to Section IX and PED requirements
- Maintain Welder Continuity logs for QA approval
- Maintain stock levels of weld filler metals
- Requisition weld filler metal as necessary
- Prepare PWHT loads and Maintain PWHT logs
- Scrutinize quality related documents and related specifications to ensure required filler and hardfacing materials are requisitioned in advance to ensure timely delivery.
- Cross-trained in other areas of QC to assist with functions as needed, such as Assembly Inspection
Requirements
This role requires that candidates be authorized to work in the US, hold at least a high school diploma or GED, have a minimum of 3 years' of welding experience, and be familiar with the following:- Knowledge of the ASTM material standards and grades
- Knowledge of destructive & non-destructive testing
- Knowledge of ASME codes
- Be able to pass Velan Visual Inspection Certification (ASNT VTII)
- Must be able to pass annual visual acuity test, including color discrimination
- MS Office, Internet, Email
