Job Description

As a member of the corporate Breakthrough Office (BTO), the incumbent will play a key role in creating a culture of continuous improvement and execution discipline while ensuring the efficient completion of Velan’s managed initiatives. The BTO Specialist must quickly establish credibility within and across the organization at all levels and eventually throughout all the global locations by creating value and helping to “move the dials”.  A strong drive for results is critical to success in this role. The BTO Specialist is responsible to support initiative leaders at various stages of their project lifecycles through direct assistance and coaching to transfer knowledge and develop autonomy, for both project management and continuous improvement skills and tools.  As such, the Specialist’s role has a strong focus on development and coaching. The CI Specialist will also be instrumental in the development of tools, systems, and processes in support of the Continuous Improvement and Change program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Consults, coaches and mentors leads on continuous improvement initiatives and Project Management
  • Leads strategic CI initiatives while coaching teams
  • Facilitates and leads Continuous Improvement events as a subject matter expert while empowering others to become autonomous in the use of Continuous Improvement and Project Management tools and techniques
  • Develops and delivers CI and PM training to employees, as required
  • Develops tools, templates and processes intended to standardize and facilitate project and program management practices within the organization.
  • Provides coaching to management, as required
  • Coordinates and facilitates best practices exchanges between plants and functions
  • Acts as a change agent to influence, collaborate with and manage key stakeholders to instill a culture of continuous improvement, execution discipline, process awareness, and sustained gains throughout the organization
  • May also provide expertise on change management
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director, Continuous Improvement & Change Program

Requirements

EDUCATION:
University degree, or the equivalent experience
Project management certification (PMP) preferred
Certified LSS Black Belt

EXPERIENCE:
10-15 years relevant experience with at least 3 years teaching/coaching. Preferably in LSS tools, methods and project management
Experience in a lean manufacturing environment preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of lean six sigma principles and practices
MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Knowledge of Project Management
Knowledge of MS Project
Business Process Management System (BPMS) *Asset
MS Project Online *Asset
MS Access *Asset
SharePoint Online *Asset
Knowledge of Change Management (ADKAR model) *Asset

Fluently bilingual - written and oral, English and French
Able to conduct effective meetings
Able to work under pressure and with little supervision
Able to develop tools and templates to simplify tasks
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
Strong analytical skills
Execution discipline
Able to develop and maintain lasting relationships with stakeholders
Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines
Able to coach others using a structured method
