Technician, Research & Development (R & D)

MandateUnder the direction of the Manager, R&D, the incumbent, passionate about prototype development and new technologies, will be responsible for supporting all initiatives related to the development and launch of new products. Beyond the execution, he will have to analyze and understand the various problems to identify and propose solutions.
Main Responsibilities
- Participate in product / technology development projects in a R&D laboratory environment.
- Participate in the preparation of technical documents, in particular test plans, qualification procedures, and test reports.
- Perform prototype qualifications using manual and computer-controlled instruments.
- Respect strict deadlines and work in close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams (Design Office, Industrialization, Operations, etc.).
- Program and operate R&D equipment (boiler, heating unit, cryogenic tank, mass spectrometer) as well as laboratory instruments (load, displacement, strain and temperature).
- Follow best health, safety and environment practices and company procedures.
- Be a stakeholder of the “Lean” laboratory transformation.
- Occasionally, provide field service assistance for repair or maintenance and investigate customer returns that require technical evaluations.
- Occasionally, operate a CNC milling machine (Trak DPM RX5 bed mill) as well as a CNC lathe (TRAK TRL 2460SX).
Specific Responsibilities
- Make recommendations to improve performance and / or reduce the cost of products.
- Participate in the design, modification, improvement and automation of various test benches.
R&D
- Participate in qualifications or special tests (defense, nuclear).
- Build positive relationships with customers.
- Modify or build supports or test benches, and in general, all parts necessary for the qualification of prototypes.
Requirements
Education- Cegep DEC in mechanical engineering or engineering physics technology or a DEP with relevant work experience.
- Training as a class 4 boiler operator is an asset.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
- Field service experience is an asset.
Requirements
- Bilingual in French and English.
- Ability to prepare technical reports in English.
- Good knowledge (intermediate level) with Excel and Word.
- Knowledge and / or experience in R&D testing, design, product development and data acquisition systems (National Instruments, Allen Bradley, an asset).
- Knowledge and / or experience with valves, fittings, pressure vessels is an asset.
- Knowledge of industrial valve standards is an asset.
Working Condition
- Work environment: R&D laboratory (80%) and office (20%).
